The FIA is to reconsider the rules surrounding engine development rules in Formula 1 for next season.
Various teams found a loophole in the technical regulations that would permit them to make changes to their power unit during 2015.
The discrepancy surrounding when the power unit should be homologated saw the FIA theoretically “unfreeze” engine development, which was initially pushed for by Red Bull and Ferrari in a bid to gain ground of reigning champions Mercedes, but excluded incoming engine supplier Honda from developing their power unit in-season.
Now it seems that the FIA is looking to turn their back on their stance against Honda following a meeting with the Japanese manufacturer during this week. With an agreement being made for the governing body to rethink their original intention.
A subsequence of a potential U-turn could involve Honda homologates their power unit on the imposed date of February 28, but are granted the 32 engine development tokens that are granted to Mercedes, Renault and Ferrari for 2015 in order to compete on a level playing field.
