Following the announcement of Felipe Nasr’s number for his Formula 1 career, the entirety of the grid have their numbers confirmed, with the exception of Marussia and Caterham, whose respective entries are still provisional.
Driver numbers were introduced before the start of last season, following suit from other categories of motorsport, such as MotoGP and NASCAR. Drivers are permitted to choose any number between #2 and #99 that hasn’t already been taken by another driver, with #1 reserved for the reigning world champion, should they elect to use it. Lewis Hamilton, who recently took his second world title, has decided to continue with his chosen #44 in 2015, meaning #1 won’t be used for the first time since 1994.
