It has now been a year since the introduction of permanent driver numbers into Formula 1, following suit from the likes of MotoGP, so when new drivers are signed up they also need to take into consideration which number they would like emblazoned across their car and helmet.
Scuderia Toro Rosso have brought in two new drivers for 2015, Dutchman Max Verstappen, the son of former F1 driver Jos, and Spaniard Carlos Sainz Jr, the son of rallying legend Carlos Sainz.
17-year-old Max has elected to have #33 for the duration of his career, after posting a picture of himself and his sister, Victoria, on Twitter: “Since I was a young kid I was racing around with this number. So I thought it is nice to keep that in F1 aswell! #33”
Meanwhile, Max’s team mate Carlos made a more casual announcement of his driver number, using the hashtag #carlo55ainz in a recent tweet: “Exciting 1st day at my new job as @ToroRossoSpy driver. Some simulator stuff to work on! #livinthedream #carlo55ainz”
At the time of writing this article, the only driver left to announce their permanent number is Sauber’s new boy Felipe Nasr, who has recently been promoted from the GP2 series.
