Lewis Hamilton says he is looking forward to a “battle” with team-mate Nico Rosberg in tomorrows desert duel, and insists he will not settle for second place to win the title.
“I always liked to be the chaser as that’s what my whole race career was about. That was always a strength that I had – and it then became a part that I loved most.” – Explained Lewis in an interview with formula1.com.
Hamilton has been out-qualified over a season for the first time in his career but played down the significance of this: “Pole position is a great thing. It’s something a driver always wants to get. But as we have seen this season, pole position is not everything. It is the race that matters.”
Abu Dhabi has historically been one of Lewis’ strongest circuits however it was his Mercedes team mate Nico Rosberg who powered to pole position on the floodlit circuit, ahead of Lewis in 2nd place.
“Being in front is a great thing, but tomorrow I am very much looking forward to a battle with Nico.”
Out of the four races in Abu Dhabi so far, the pole sitter has gone on to win the race on just one occasion – can Rosberg improve this statistic tomorrow?
