As we saw last time out Toro Rosso introduced a new front nose on the STR-9. Before their new design they had  the common “finger nose” style as seen on the Sauber C33 and McLaren MP4-29. Their new nose design is what Adrian Newey calls the keel design, and is what Red Bull have been running on the RB10 across 2014 season.

“The new Keel design is a lot more natural at adding front-end downforce” says James Key, Toro Rosso’s Technical Director.

Toro Rosso’s S-duct system is a lot more efficient in taking air via the nose and feeding in to either the sidepods or the rear diffuser. So the STR-9 will have slightly better cooling on the Renault power unit as well as slightly more grip to the rear of the car.
