Both the reigning world champion and the former double world champion have had difficult campaigns for their respective teams. With Vettel bearing the brunt of most of the Red Bull’s reliability troubles and under pressure from the rise of his new team-mate Daniel Ricciardo. While Alonso’s Ferrari hasn’t fared better performance-wise, with his last race win stretching back to his home race last year as Ferrari have endured a winless 2014 season so far.

Vettel is currently sixth in the drivers championship and heads to Singapore some 60 points adrift of Ricciardo, who has scored all of three Red Bull’s victories so far this season while Vettel has only two podium finishes to show for his efforts. With Alonso a place further up in fifth.

Vettel, who is contracted with Red bull till the end of 2015, has been a main subject of rumours linking him to a seat at Ferrari in recent years, including rumours of him having a pre-contract agreement with the Scuderia for this season and the German has come out to hit back on the latest ones involving him in a swap deal with Alonso.

“There is nothing new.” Vettel is quoted to have told German newspaper Bild. “I have a contract with Red Bull and I’m happy where I am”

Red Bull advisor Helmut Marko was also quoted by Bild to have played down Alonso driving for the Milton Keynes-based team next season, adding that “Alonso is not  running securely at Red Bull”.
