2014-Italian-GP-016Peter Prodromou has begun his second spell with McLaren in the assigned role of a Chief Engineer.

Prodromou, who departed reigning world champions Red Bull on gardening leave terms, originally planned to begin working with McLaren next year along with fellow employee Dan Fallows but a legal disagreement between McLaren and Red Bull concerning Fallows and his Red Bull contract began to surface.

However an agreement with the Milton-Keynes and Woking-based outfits sees the Prodromou take up his duties before the close of the 2014 season, with Fallows remaining with the team.

McLaren racing director Eric Boullier believes that the recruitment of Red Bull’s former Head of Aerodynamics is fitting with the structural  reshuffle that has taken place over the course of the year.

“He joins us at an auspicious time; we’ve spent much of 2014 working to develop and organise our design department, and his arrival neatly coincides with the conclusion of that restructuring.” Boullier commented.

“Peter has proved beyond doubt that he’s one of the most capable and intelligent engineers in Formula 1, and everyone at McLaren is looking forward to the contribution he’ll make as we push ahead with our ambitious plans for the future.”

Prodromou meanwhile, spoke of his desire to use his 15 year experience with McLaren to guide the team into a new era of success.

“It’s fantastic to return to McLaren, and to see a mixture of faces old and new,” said Prodromou.

“Of course, I have first-hand experience of just what a passionate, focused and capable race team exists within these walls, and I’ve already seen the enthusiasm and positivity that exists to return McLaren to world championship-winning glory.

“I, too, am determined to work flat-out to do everything I can to help initiate a new chapter of success in McLaren’s history.”
