Sauber test driver Sergey Sirotkin is to get his first run in a Formula 1 car during a grand prix weekend at his home race in Sochi.
The 19-year-old currently racing in Formula Renault 3.5 series joined the Swiss-based team during the middle of last year, with a view to racing for the team this season although he remained at Sauber as a test driver as the absence of an FIA superlicence meant he wasn’t eligible for racing in the sport.
He then participated in the pre-season test at Bahrain earlier this year in order to cover the sufficient mileage required to be granted a superlicence.
Sirotkin will now have his first Friday practice outing in front of his home fans at the inaugural Russian Grand Prix next month.
