## Perez commits to Cadillac until 2029

Perez will remain with Cadillac until at least the end of 2029 after signing a new multi-year contract ahead of his home Mexico City Grand Prix.

The 36-year-old joined the new team for its debut season, and Cadillac has moved early to secure a driver it views as central to the project. The [new Perez contract](https://readmotorsport.com/2026/10/28/sergio-perez-cadillac-f1-contract-2029/) also comes before his 300th Formula 1 start this weekend.

## F1’s V8 plans begin to take shape

Formula 1 could return to V8 engines under proposals being considered for 2030 or 2031.

The FIA concept includes a 2.0 to 2.3-litre turbocharged V8 producing around 900bhp, accompanied by a smaller hybrid system. The wider [F1 V8 proposals](https://readmotorsport.com/2026/10/28/f1-v8-engine-plans-900bhp-lighter-cars/) also target cars around 80kg lighter and potentially significant reductions in engine costs.

Nothing has been finalised, but the direction is becoming clearer: simpler power units, lighter cars and a greater emphasis on the driver.

## Marko backs Tsolov over Lawson

Helmut Marko believes Nikola Tsolov should be given a Racing Bulls seat ahead of Liam Lawson in 2027.

The former Red Bull adviser cited the organisation’s tradition of developing young talent when explaining why he would favour the Bulgarian. However, [Marko’s backing of Tsolov](https://readmotorsport.com/2026/10/28/helmut-marko-tsolov-lawson-racing-bulls-2027/) is his own view rather than confirmation of the team’s plans, with Lawson’s future still unresolved.

## Marquez questions MotoGP workload

Alex Marquez has warned that MotoGP risks damaging the careers of its young riders by continuing to increase the amount of high-intensity track time.

Six full-time riders were declared unfit during the Australian Grand Prix weekend, sharpening the debate around the demands placed on the grid. Marquez has previously called for fewer Sprint races and says [MotoGP must protect its younger riders](https://readmotorsport.com/2026/10/28/alex-marquez-motogp-young-riders-sprint-format/), including Pedro Acosta and Fermin Aldeguer.

## Rally USA details confirmed

The WRC’s return to America in 2027 will be based in Knoxville, with a ceremonial start on Nashville’s Lower Broadway. [Rally USA](https://readmotorsport.com/2026/10/28/rally-usa-knoxville-nashville-wrc-2027/) will run from 26-29 August across Tennessee and Kentucky, ending a 39-year absence for the United States from the World Rally Championship.

The event will form part of an expanded 15-round calendar and gives WRC a major opportunity to grow its presence in the American market.
