Fernando Alonso has revealed he took his newborn son karting for the first time at just two months old, carrying him in his arms for a lap. The Fernando Alonso son karting moment came to light on Spanish radio show El Larguero. The Aston Martin driver opened up on life as a new father since the birth of his son, Leonard.
Alonso Shares Family Details on Spanish Radio
Speaking on the show, Alonso said he wanted his son to feel the speed early. “We already took a lap in a kart. When he was two months old, I took him for a lap in my arms. He already felt the wind on his face,” he told El Larguero.
Leonard was born in March, on the eve of the Japanese Grand Prix. Media day is a mandatory commitment for every driver on a race weekend, and it was Leonard’s arrival that kept Alonso away from his duties at Suzuka, his partner Melissa Jimenez having given birth just as the Formula 1 calendar reached Japan.
Alonso also described his son’s personality six months on. “I think he’s delighted with everything. Right now, he’s a very smiley child, and it’s truly wonderful. When I’m home, the few moments I have make up for all the difficulties we’re having professionally,” he said.
Paternal Perspective and F1 Travel Schedule
Fatherhood has also shaped how Alonso thinks about the demands of a long championship season. He looked ahead to a time when racing no longer takes him to 24 countries a year. “When I leave Formula 1, it’s clear I’m not going to be travelling to 24 countries every year, am I? So, hopefully I can share a little more with them,” he said.
For now, the racing continues alongside his contract extension with Aston Martin. Alonso has spoken before about his long-term Formula 1 future, and these latest comments add a personal dimension to those plans.
Grand Prix Circuit Timeline for 2027
Alonso wants his son trackside before long. “Next year I want to share the circuits, the trips around the world, and take lots of photos with him,” he said, pointing to the 2027 season as the point when Leonard could begin joining him at races.
The Fernando Alonso son karting introduction looks like the first step toward that plan, as reported by Crash.net.
