# Marc Marquez Aragon Mistake Nearly Undid A Perfect Weekend

A rare **Marc Marquez Aragon mistake** almost turned the reigning MotoGP world champion’s most important weekend of the season into a fight he did not need. Marquez has confirmed he failed to disengage the rear ride-height device on his Ducati as the lights went out at MotorLand.

## How the Marc Marquez Aragon mistake unfolded

Footage released in Ducati’s Inside Ducati series captured him explaining the error to his crew in parc ferme: *“At the start I didn’t disengage the rear device.”* Without that slip, he said, he would have led from corner one.

Instead the Desmosedici grounded out at Turn 2 in a shower of sparks, pushing him wide. Marquez recovered to second behind Marco Bezzecchi by the end of the opening lap, produced a race-winning move at the chicane on lap six of 23, then broke clear between laps 13 and 16. Bezzecchi lost second to KTM’s Pedro Acosta.

## What the Aragon double means for the title

The sprint and grand prix double was Marquez’s third of the season and his fourth grand prix win of 2026, delivering a record 20th career sprint victory and an eighth premier-class win at Aragon.

Crucially, it moved him back up to second in the standings. Marquez now trails championship leader Jorge Martin by 19 points, having cut a deficit that stood at 102 earlier in the year, with Bezzecchi five further adrift. Ducati general manager Gigi Dall’Igna called the weekend an opportunity that had to be taken and expects the fight to run to the final round. It resumes at Misano, where any of the three could leave as leader.
