Isack Hadjar Misses Italian GP As Lawson Stays At Red Bull

Isack Hadjar will miss this weekend’s Italian Grand Prix as he continues to recover from the wrist injury he sustained during Formula 1’s summer break, handing Liam Lawson a second consecutive outing alongside Max Verstappen at Red Bull.

Isack Hadjar sits out a second race in a row

The 21-year-old Frenchman, promoted to Red Bull’s senior team for 2026, fractured his wrist during a boxing session over the break and was already ruled out of the Dutch Grand Prix. Red Bull said on Wednesday that he was making “encouraging progress” but that it would not take “unnecessary risks” with his return, as reported by Motorsport.com.

Both Red Bull-owned teams have therefore confirmed unchanged line-ups for Monza. Lawson stays in the RB22, while reserve driver Yuki Tsunoda again fills the vacant VCARB 03 alongside rookie Arvid Lindblad. Ayumu Iwasa, Red Bull’s other reserve, will drive Verstappen’s car in first practice, fulfilling one of the team’s four mandated rookie sessions this season.

Zandvoort gave both stand-ins a platform

Neither deputy looked out of place in the Netherlands. Lawson, returning to the team where his F1 career began, took seventh from eighth on the grid; Tsunoda narrowly missed the points in 11th, both running close to their team-mates on one-lap pace.

“Zandvoort gave me a really useful first reference in the car, and having a full sprint weekend behind me means I’m coming into Monza with a much better understanding,” Lawson said in a statement issued by Red Bull. “It’s a completely different track, and there’ll be new challenges.”

The timing matters. Red Bull sit fourth in the constructors’ standings behind Mercedes, Ferrari and McLaren, and Monza offers an opening with championship leader Kimi Antonelli starting from the back after a power unit penalty.
