Marco Bezzecchi ended Aragon MotoGP practice fastest of all on Friday, setting an all-time MotorLand lap record to deny Alex and Marc Marquez in the session that decides direct entry to Q2.
The factory Aprilia rider, still not fully recovered from the Sachsenring injuries that have clouded his weekend, produced a 1m45.455s with barely two minutes left on the clock. Alex Marquez followed him across the line on the Gresini Ducati to take second by just 0.010s, with Marc Marquez third and 0.038s adrift – the top three covered by less than four hundredths.
Marc Marquez loses his Aragon aura
The reigning world champion had controlled the hour, breaking his own 2025 lap record with a 1m45.493s on fresh rubber, and until Friday afternoon he had never been beaten in an Aragon session he actually contested as a Ducati rider.
Pre-weekend favourite he may have been, but he had nothing left for a response.
What Aragon MotoGP practice means for qualifying
Fabio Di Giannantonio was fourth for VR46 ahead of the returning Fermin Aldeguer, with Raul Fernandez sixth and championship leader Jorge Martin recovering from 18th in FP1 to take seventh.
Pedro Acosta was the only KTM inside the top 10, while Johann Zarco marked his comeback from May’s Catalan crash with tenth and top Honda honours, according to Crash.net.
The heaviest casualty was Pecco Bagnaia. Thirteenth and 1.032s off the pace, the Ducati man must fight his way out of Q1 on Saturday morning at a circuit that has rarely troubled him.
