Antonelli Silverstone Strategy Test Gives Ferrari British GP Opening

Kimi Antonelli will start Sunday’s British Grand Prix from pole at Silverstone, but Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc and Lewis Hamilton have turned the race into a live strategy test for Mercedes.

The Mercedes driver has already converted Silverstone pace into a Sprint win and a 1:28.111 qualifying lap, yet the race-day picture is less clean than the grid suggests. F1’s British GP strategy guide framed tyre choice and pit timing as the central Sunday question after a gusty qualifying session left the lead fight tightly packed.

Ferrari pressure keeps Mercedes honest

Leclerc starts alongside Antonelli, with Hamilton third and George Russell fourth, putting Ferrari in position to split or pressure Mercedes if the front-runners converge on similar tyre life. Antonelli said after qualifying that his final lap was tidy but stressed that the Grand Prix would be long and that Mercedes must work to keep Ferrari behind.

That is the consequence of Silverstone’s high-speed load. Track position matters, but so does avoiding an early tyre cliff, particularly with Hamilton giving Ferrari a second tactical car from row two. For Antonelli, this is no longer just a breakthrough pole weekend. It is the first proper test of whether Mercedes can control a British GP from the front while Ferrari has two cars close enough to force the call.
