Williams has announced Logan Sargeant as the latest addition to its Formula 1 driver academy on a long-term deal.

Sargeant comes off the back of his third season racing in Formula 3, placing seventh in the drivers’ championship in 2021 with four podiums and a victory in Russia.

The American driver narrowly missed out on winning the F3 title in 2020, losing out to Prema team-mate Oscar Piastri at the final round at Mugello.

Sargeant joins a number of young drivers in Williams junior ranks, including 2020 F1 debutant Jack Aitken, F2 driver Roy Nissany and 2020 W Series champion Jamie Chadwick.

Ahead of this weekend’s US Grand Prix, Williams confirmed it had Sargeant to be a part of its driver academy on a long-term basis.

“I am delighted to be joining the Williams Racing Driver Academy,” said Sargeant.

“It’s a team with not only a fantastic history, but a great track record of bringing young talent into Formula One.

“I am really excited to begin working with the team and can’t wait to hit the ground running.”

Williams said Sargeant’s role will see him “conduct simulator work and help with car development as part of a long-term agreement, becoming fully immersed into the team both trackside and at the factory in Grove.”

“I am incredibly pleased to welcome Logan to the Williams Racing Driver Academy,” Williams CEO and team principal Jost Capito said.

“He’s demonstrated his talent in FIA Formula 3, consistently delivering strong results in an extremely competitive field.

“I’m proud that Williams will play a part in supporting the progression and growth of another talented young driver.”

While Sargeant’s 2022 plans are currently yet to be finalised, Williams revealed they would be announced in due course.
