Aston Martin hire Red Bull aero chief as new technical director

Red Bull’s head of aerodynamics Dan Fallows has been signed by Aston Martin as its new Formula 1 technical director, it has been announced.

Aston Martin is continuing to revise its technical structure since rebranding from Racing Point, with Fallows’ appointment a part of its recent major recruitment drive.

The Silverstone-based outfit’s former technical director Andy Green is moving into a new role as chief technical officer where he will be in charge of the team’s key personnel.

Alfa Romeo’s technical director Luca Furbatto was also poached by Aston Martin to become its engineering director.

Fallows comes with a wealth of experience having worked at Red Bull since 2006, becoming a key member during its run of four consecutive titles at the start of the 2010s.

Aston Martin team principal Otmar Szafnauer said the team’s recent acquisitions form part of the plans to fight for victories and championships in the long-term.

“Everybody at Aston Martin aims to win grands prix and world championships, and this new and improved structure we have created mirrors that of the most successful teams in F1 today,” Szafnauer said, as quoted by Motorsport.com.

Fallows will remain at Red Bull until his contract expires, with team boss Christian Horner crediting his role in helping turn it into a race-winning outfit, as well as hinting a replacement would come within the Red Bull fold.

“It goes without saying that Dan will be missed as he has played an important role during his time at Red Bull Racing and I would like to thank him for his contribution towards the team’s successes,” said Horner.

“We do however recognise that the chance to take on the role of technical director within an F1 team is an appealing next step in his career. In turn, this move creates exciting internal progression opportunities as we look to the future and draw from the wealth of talent within the wider team.”
