AlphaTauri has revealed a new-look livery on its 2021 car, as the team unveiled the AT02 in an online launch.

The Faenza-based outfit is coming off the back of its best-ever season in Formula 1, in which it amassed its highest points total for a campaign and claimed a shock victory at the Italian Grand Prix.

This year will be the fourth and final season AlphaTauri will be powered by a Honda engine, with the Japanese manufacturer leaving F1 at the end of 2021.

Honda has developed a brand new power unit for its swan song, which has already met expectations over the winter period according its technical director Toyoharu Tanabe.

The AT02 is an evolution of its predecessor, although AlphaTauri has used its permitted two development tokens on a new nose and redesigned front suspension.

Having finished at the rear of the midfield last year, team principal Franz Tost has set the team’s 2021 objective of consistently finishing as the top midfield runner.

“In 2020 Scuderia AlphaTauri was a midfield team, we were fighting successfully against the other teams like McLaren, Renault and Racing Point but our target for this year is to consistently be at the top of this midfield pack and to improve further,” Tost said.

“To achieve this, we have to avoid reliability issues and finish all races in the points. This can only happen if we do not make any mistakes, so we have to be 100% concentrated on our job, race after race, on and off the track, because our competitors are hard to fight.”

AlphaTauri will field a revised driver line-up in 2021, with Monza winner Pierre Gasly remaining on board but with rookie team-mate Yuki Tsunoda partnering him in the second car.

The team’s 2021 challenger will get its first proper on-track run-out in pre-season testing in Bahrain on March 12.
