# Ricciardo: Norris partnership won’t be a ‘comedy show’

Daniel Ricciardo has told fans not to expect a “comedy show” with new McLaren team-mate Lando Norris, insisting he’s focused on helping the team build on its recent resurgence.

Ricciardo has joined the Woking-based outfit after a two-year stint at midfield rivals Renault where he will form a partnership alongside Norris.

Since Norris arrived in F1 in 2019, the pair’s close bond is well-documented, providing fans with many entertaining moments.

And while both will now race together in the same team, Ricciardo is clear his primary focus is delivering results for his new employers.

“It’s something I want to reiterate to everyone watching, and every fan of McLaren in particular,” Ricciardo told Sky Sports News.

“It’s not going to be a comedy show. I’m going there for business, I’m going there to improve the car.

“My personality won’t change so I think I do enjoy doing what I do… but I’m certainly not going there to be this meme power couple or whatever it’s described as these days!”

Ricciardo, who scored two podiums in 2020, arrives at McLaren ahead of the team’s return to Mercedes power this year.

The switch in engine supplier has many predicting McLaren will be a real force in 2021, having secured third place in the constructors’ standings last season – it’s highest finish for eight years.

The Australian leaves Renault with the partnership failing to reach the expectations it promised to deliver, but Ricciardo still feels the French outfit’s improved form in 2020 leaves him feeling he gave something back to the team.

“I can honestly leave here feeling fulfilled,” Ricciardo said.

“I think importantly for myself feeling like I contributed something back into this team. Really it was the podiums, and just to see the joy not only on my face but also on the team’s face. It had been so long.”
