The Monaco Grand Prix will take place as planned in 2021 insist the races organisers, despite suggestions the event could be cancelled due to COVID-19 restrictions.
Formula 1 has already been forced to revise the look of the 23-race calendar, with the season opener in Australia postponed until November and China also delayed.
The ongoing pandemic is continuing to put races at risk, particularly street/temporary tracks where a large amount of preparation is required to get circuits ready in time.
This has led to reports that Monaco, scheduled on May 23, is likely to be called off, with the following two rounds in Azerbaijan and Canada also in doubt.
Monaco is due to host the Historic Grand Prix and Formula E before the F1 race, which means track work must commence in February to be ready for the first event on April 23.
There is also travel restrictions currently in place like other European countries, requiring arrivals to prove a negative COVID-19 test before being allowed to enter.
But the Automobile Club de Monaco is adamant the Monaco GP, along with its other events, will take place as per the schedule.
“Despite the latest rumours circulating on certain websites and social media, the ACM can confirm that the #MonacoGP will take place from May 20th to 23rd, 2021,” they said on Twitter.
“The ACM also confirms the #GrandPrixMonacoHistorique (April 23rd-25th 2021) and the #MonacoEPrix (May 8th 2021).”
Last year’s cancelation marked the first time in 54 years Monaco was exempt from the F1 calendar.
