The Haas Formula 1 team has announced Romain Grosjean will be released from hospital on Tuesday as he continues to be treated following his accident in the Bahrain Grand Prix.
Grosjean miraculously escaped from the 137mph accident with minor burns to the back of both hands, with the force of impact measured at 53g.
The Frenchman was aided by FIA medical delegate Ian Roberts from the wreckage, and was taken to hospital where he stayed overnight.
Haas released a statement on Monday morning confirming Grosjean was continuing to be treated for his injuries, but will be discharged on Tuesday.
“Romain Grosjean is continuing his convalescence at the Bahrain Defence Force (BDF) hospital having remained there overnight following Sunday’s incident at the Bahrain GP,” the team said.
“Treatment on the burns Grosjean sustained on the back of both his hands is going well. Grosjean was visited by Gunther Steiner, team principal of Haas F1 Team, on Monday, and it is anticipated he will be discharged from the care of the hospital on Tuesday 1st December.”
Grosjean posted a video on social media from his hospital bed, where he gave an update on his condition and thanked the medical staff for helping him escape without severe injuries.
Grosjean went on to praise the halo cockpit protection device, which he is convinced saved his life, despite not initially being in favour of its introduction in 2018.
“Hello everyone, I just wanted to say I am OK – well, sort of OK,” he said.
“Thank you very much for all the messages. I wasn’t for the halo some years ago, but I think it’s the greatest thing that we’ve brought to Formula 1, and without it I wouldn’t be able to speak with you today.
“So thanks to all the medical staff at the circuit, at the hospital, and hopefully I can write you quite soon some messages and tell you how it’s going.”
