# Ferrari: Recent performance gains a major boost for 2021

Ferrari boss Mattia Binotto says the team’s recent surge in form is a real boost for its hopes of making further gains in 2021.

The Italian outfit has endured its least competitive campaign since 2014, having been held back by an underpowered engine and a lack of aero efficiency.

But there has been some encouraging signs Ferrari is getting on top of the SF1000’s issues, after claiming its highest race points haul of 2020 in Turkey with a third and fourth-placed finish for both cars.

The result has allowed Ferrari to considerably close the gap to the teams ahead in the constructors’ championship, now just 24 points behind Racing Point in third place.

Although there were suggestions that Istanbul’s unusual low-trip track surface flattered the team’s performance, a series of aero changes has allowed Ferrari to be closer to the front-running teams.

Despite the regulations remaining largely unchanged for 2021, Binotto, who skipped the Turkish Grand Prix to work remotely from Maranello, believes it can continue to get unravel more performance out of the SF1000.

“It’s obviously very important for Ferrari doing well at the moment,” Binotto said, as quoted by Motorsport.com. “We know that we have improved the car and, if you look at the last races, we improved our position in the race.

“I think the car has become more consistent and the car has become a bit faster. So it’s great, at least, to have those results, because I think it’s great for next year. It’s great looking ahead as well to the next races.

“I think that as well in terms of constructor positions, it’s not the end of the championship, so it’s encouraging.

“The people are working hard back at home trying to understand the weaknesses of the car and trying to address them. And especially, as we are preparing for next season, those results somehow are encouraging ourselves.”
