# How Hamilton can clinch a seventh F1 title in Turkey

Lewis Hamilton stands on the verge of greatness with a record-equaling seventh world title up for grabs at this weekend’s Turkish Grand Prix.

Hamilton 2020 season has been nothing short of impressive, in a campaign where he reached new heights and once again blown away the opposition.

The Briton is now holder of the most podiums in Formula 1, whilst also equaling most victories at one circuit and, more recently in Portimao, most career wins.

But the Istanbul Park could witness Hamilton become only the second driver in history to win a seventh drivers’ world championship.

Three victories in the last three races has seen his championship lead increase to 85 points with just 104 left to play for.

Mercedes team-mate Valtteri Bottas is now the only driver who can overhaul him in the remaining four rounds, but the Finn’s title hopes hang by a thread.

Hamilton’s task is simple: finish ahead of Bottas and he will seal the championship regardless of where Bottas finishes.

With only 78 points available after Turkey, Bottas must outscore Hamilton by at least eight points in order to take the fight to Bahrain.

Bottas, however, has only outscored Hamilton on three occasions this season, with the six-time world champion having led the standings since Hungary in July.

Should Bottas finish seventh or lower, Hamilton, who has nine wins from 13 races this year, will automatically be crowned champion even if he fails to finish.

A seventh drivers’ title would see Hamilton tie Michael Schumacher’s 16-year record, with the German securing his seventh and final championship back in 2004.

Hamilton could also join Schumacher, Juan Manuel Fangio and Sebastian Vettel as the only drivers to win four straight drivers’ crowns, having won the title in the every season since 2017.
