Lewis Hamilton finished top in second practice at the Circuit of the Americas as the session was once again hit by serious rainfall.
Hamilton, looking to secure his fifth championship title this weekend in Austin, finished first after setting one lap right at the end of the wet practice session.
Hamilton went fastest on a set of intermediate tyres and finished over a second ahead of Pierre Gasly in second.
Gasly was one of the most active drivers on track, with Toro Rosso looking to gather some wet data given that rain is a strong possibility for the race on Sunday.
Max Verstappen finished just behind Gasly in third with a limited run as the session was coming to an end.
There was no running for the first hour of the session as the rain fell much harder than in the first practice session and only as the track began to dry did runners emerge onto the track to gather minimal data.
Fernando Alonso finished fourth but was over two seconds behind Verstappen.
Nico Hulkenberg finished the session in fifth while Brendon Hartley ended up sixth.
Marcus Ericsson was seventh, Stoffel Vandoorne finished in eighth and the Ferraris of Kimi Raikkonen and Sebastian Vettel finished ninth and tenth respectively.
