# Driver Ratings: 2018 Hungarian Grand Prix

Lewis Hamilton victories can rarely be considered as upsets, but in claiming the Hungarian Grand Prix win in the final race before Formula 1’s summer break, he defied pre-race expectation.

The Hungaroring has rarely been a circuit suiting Mercedes’ car characteristic – the tight, twisty nature of the venue likened to Monaco, has typically better suited Ferrari and Red Bull during the V6 hybrid era.

While Sebastian Vettel and Ferrari consolidated their status as pre-race favourites with an impressive Friday showing, rain on Saturday threw a double-six.

Hamilton was imperious in the wet, grabbing pole and with an excellent start on Sunday alongside team-mate Valtteri Bottas providing headaches for the Ferrari pairing, Hamilton was able to claim a comfortable victory.

Vettel was able to recover from fourth on the grid to second place, despite late-race contact with Bottas after having passed the Finn. A limping Bottas would also trip over Daniel Ricciardo’s Red Bull in a disastrous final five laps in which he slipped to fifth.

Here are our DRIVER RATINGS for the 2018 Hungarian Grand Prix.
