Massa turns thoughts away from Formula 1

Ex-Williams driver Felipe Massa has turned his attention away from Formula 1 following his retirement from the series.

Massa had been pushing to remain at Williams alongside Lance Stroll for the 2018 season, but announced his retirement ahead of his home GP earlier this year.

Though the 36-year-old has made comments criticising his old team for the decision to drop him, Massa now claims his thoughts are no longer on F1.

“I don’t know what will happen, I’m not following the team now,” Massa said when asked by Autosportabout the news Sergey Sirotkin has replaced Robert Kubica as favourite to join Williams in 2018.

“My thoughts are in other things and what I’m doing from now, and it’s not F1 anymore.”

He had previously tested with Jaguar before postponing his F1 retirement at the start of this year.

“I have some talks with some teams, with some people, but everything is in the very beginning,” he said.

“There is nothing that I can say that is close, but it will appear quickly.”

Teams have already begun to announce drivers for the first FE rookie test, which will take place after the Marrakesh ePrix next month.

The test is for drivers who don’t have an e-license and have never driven in the series before, making Massa a possible candidate to feature.
