# Marquez: Now is not the time to do a stupid thing

Phillip Island race winner Marc Marquez says he will adpot a more cautious approach to the next race in Malaysia after going 33 points clear of MotoGP title rival Andrea Dovizioso.

The Honda rider was involved in a titanic, eight–rider tussle for the victory for much of the 27–lap Australian encounter, and was forced into taking more risks than he would have liked as a result.

Marquez – despite several close moments with other riders – was able to build up an advantage once in the lead with four laps to go to take his sixth win of the year, while Ducati’s Dovizioso struggled to 13th.

Heading to Sepang with his first opportunity to wrap up a fourth premier class title, Marquez admits he has to be more ‘patient’ during the race as not to squander a sizable championship advantage.

“They were aggressive to me, but I was playing the same cards, this was racing,” Marquez explained.

“Of course, it was dangerous and I was trying to take care the championship; one crash or zero points was a disaster.

“Before the race I knew it was important to race to open the distance, and honestly victory, I’m happy, but I’m happier with 33 points – this makes me smile more.

“Now it’s time to breath, but for be quiet. With 33 points – and I’m feeling really good with the bike – you can have extra confidence and now is not the time to do a stupid thing.”

Marquez revealed he asked his team not to tell him where Dovizioso was during the race, but after some time without seeing the Italian he began to wonder where the Ducati rider was as tried to asses his own championship situation.

“Before the race we had a meeting, they asked me if I want to know where was Dovi, but I say ‘no, I don’t care, I just want to do my race’,” he said.

“But on the middle of the race I had that question mark: where is Dovi? And I was looking behind trying to control (the gap to) him.

“Then I looked behind and I saw him when I was going out Turn 4 and he was going out of Turn 3.

“I was trying to control him and when I saw I control Dovi, I control the group more or less, so it was time to attack.”
