# Factory support shows Yamaha believes in us, says Folger

Tech3 rider Jonas Folger says the increased MotoGP factory support from Yamaha his team has received this year shows great ‘trust’ from the Japanese manufacturer.

Herve Poncehral’s satellite Yamaha outfit has enjoyed a strong 2017 season so far despite fielding two MotoGP rookies in Folger and double Moto2 champion Johann Zarco.

The pair have tallied up a podium between them – a second in France and Germany respectively – as well as a pole position at Assen for Zarco.

Despite proving a constant threat to the factory team in races, Yamaha has regularly handed upgrades down to the Tech3 team – including a new chassis and aero fairing – to try.

Surprised at the level of support he has received this year, Folger reckons it shows just how much Yamaha value both riders’ opinion despite their limited premier class experience.

“I don’t expect too much,” Folger said when asked if he would be testing anything else this season.

“I’m just happy I can ride, can focus on my work and every time I hear we get new parts I’m happy and surprised, because to be honest I didn’t expect in the beginning of the season we can get so many upgrades because we are a satellite team.

“In some races we are quite fast compared with the factory team, but still they are supporting us, so it’s really nice.

“On one side, I have to my way on set-up of the bike. But on the other side, to test something for Yamaha is nice because it means that they believe in you and they trust in you and you can help them make the bike better, so it’s a very nice thing.”

Team-mate Zarco is also pleased with the level of support Tech3 has received this year, and feels a close tie with the factory is positive for a rider’s mentality.

“I’m happy with the way it’s going,” he said.

“I’m used to it now, but it’s good to have a good connection with the factory team to always feel that you have the best thing with you.

“So I think it is very good and you need to use it.”
