Crutchlow has surgery on finger injury, hopes to make Misano race

LCR Honda rider Cal Crutchlow has undergone surgery after severing a tendon on his left index finger at his training base in Italy.

The British rider cut his left index finger open with a knife by accident on Sunday, though he did not immediately have the injury seen to.

After the bleeding continued into the morning, Crutchlow went for a check-up at the Pistoia Hospital where it was revealed he had severed a tendon.

The LCR rider underwent surgery to have the tendon reattached, before travelling to the headquarters of the Clinica Mobile in Parma where a splint was made for his finger.

Crutchlow hopes to be fit for this weekend’s San Marino Grand Prix at Misano.

“Unfortunately, I sliced my finger with a knife yesterday and it severed the tendon in my left index finger,” he said.

“I slept on it, but as the bleeding continued this morning, I went to the Emergency Room at the Pistoia Hospital, where I was examined by Dr. Riccardo Simonti who discovered that the tendon was severed.

“I then had an operation on my finger to reattach the tendon and then stitch it all back up.

“I was taken care of very well at the hospital, they did a good job.

“Since then I visited a hand specialist in Parma who made me a splint for the finger to give me every opportunity to ride at my best this weekend for the San Marino GP.

“I am sure it will be difficult, but I will try 100 percent as always. Let’s see how it goes.”

This comes after Yamaha rider Valentino Rossi suffered a displaced fracture of the tibia and fibula of his right leg in a dirt bike accident last Thursday.

Having had a successful operation on his leg, Rossi – who is fourth in the championship and 26 points adrift of leader Andrea Dovizioso – will need a recovery time of 30-40 days.

Yamaha has since confirmed it will not field a replacement for the injured Italian at this weekend’s Misano race.
