# Hamilton fastest in rain-affected second practice session at Spa

Mercedes Formula 1 driver Lewis Hamilton was fastest ahead of Ferrari’s Kimi Raikkonen in a rain-affected second practice session ahead of Sunday’s Belgium Grand Prix.

The three-time world champion set a 1m44.753s to top the 90-minute session, 0.262s up on Raikkonen.

His Mercedes team-mate Valtteri Bottas continued to struggle for consistency but still manage to end up with the third fastest time albeit over four-tenths adrift of Hamilton.

Red Bull’s Max Verstappen and Daniel Ricciardo were fourth and sixth fastest. Championship leader Sebastian Vettel split the duo in fifth.

Nico Hulkenberg was seventh for Renault with Frenchman Esteban Ocon backing up his strong FP1 pace with the eighth quickest time in FP2.

Carlos Sainz was just under two seconds off Hamilton in ninth ahead of Jolyon Palmer, Fernando Alonso and Sergio Perez.

At the beginning of the session, the Haas duo suffered from a broken DRS system with meant the flap stayed open on both cars forcing both cars to come into the pits to get it repaired.

Local hero Stoffel Vandoorne was 14th fastest with Daniil Kvyat 15th.

The threat of rain hung over the track for a large portion of the session before finally soaking the track with roughly 25 minutes of the session remaining.

Daniel Ricciardo and Fernando Alonso ventured out but declined to continue due to the quantity of rain on the track.
