# ‘Extra confidence’ led to FP2 crash, says Marquez

Marc Marquez believes his heavy crash in the early stages of second practice for the MotoGP race at Silverstone was caused by ‘extra confidence’ on his part.

The Honda rider exited pitlane on the harder rear Michelin tyre at the beginning of the afternoon session, and felt confident enough to push on his first flying lap as conditions were much warmer than those experienced in first practice.

Pushing hard on a cold tyre through the fast Becketts section, Marquez was flicked from his RC213V. The Spaniard escaped injury and was able to rejoin the session, though his run plan was heavily compromised as a result.

“This afternoon, first crash, was a big crash,” he said.

“This changed completely the plan of the practice and we were a little bit limited at working (with) only one bike.

“But, of course, in the end it was my mistake. I see it was sunny here at Silverstone and I believe I was able to push on the first lap. It was not like this, maybe the tyre was not at the correct temperature.

“We tried to work hard but the problem is the second bike was completely different set-up, and they (the team) weren’t able to change (the bike) because it takes a lot of time.

“The confidence was not good, but on the other side the laptimes were coming well, so happy for this.

“Tomorrow I believe that we can have a small step with the front confidence and try to understand the rear tyres.”

Marquez ended the day fifth overall with a 2m01.611s, but did suffer another fall in the closing stages at Village corner.

Once again admitting responsibility, Marquez felt it was still the best decision to immediately push on his second bike as he believes this stops him dwelling on a previous crash.

“When I crash normally I like to go out on the track and be fast from the beginning,” he added.

“It’s what I did, take the second bike and be as quick as possible, because then you forget the crash and I was pushing on the limit straight away, riding fast and improving my laptimes.

“So, yeah, it’s the way… yeah, I crashed again, but in the end I need to try and need to forget.”
