# Liberty Media wants more Asian street races on F1 calendar

Formula 1’s sport’s managing director Sean Bratches says he wants more races in Asian cities to join the calendar in the future.

Singapore is currently the only such event on the 20-race calendar and it’s one of the most popular with teams and fans alike.

The sport expanded to a number of Asian countries around and after the turn of the century such as Malaysia, Korea, India and China.

All of which have either disappeared or are set to exit by the end of the decade. One reason was the lack of an existing or potential F1 fanbase.

Another common failure was the location of the circuit, which was often too far from a highly-populated city. Bratches wants to make sure any future Asian races are held in ‘iconic cities’.

“I’m spending a lot of time reaching out proactively to cities … and think ultimately we will realise more street races than we have seen historically,” Bratches told *AFP.*

“We will go to iconic cities where there are large fan bases, particularly new fanbases that we can activate.

“We are very focused on bringing additional GPs to the continent here. We’re in talks with a couple of cities to that end.”
