10 talking points of the 2017 Formula 1 season

Sebastian Vettel heads on his summer holidays leading the Formula 1 World Championship, a position no non-Mercedes driver has held since 2013.

Midway through the most exciting season in years, Vettel is 14 points ahead of Lewis Hamilton. Mercedes’ new star Valtteri Bottas has been keeping the pressure on the top two, whilst the Red Bull duo Daniel Ricciardo and Max Verstappen, and Ferrari’s second driver Kimi Raikkonen have struggled to keep up in the opening 11 races.

Away from the title fight, two youngsters with difficult starts to the season have both proven themselves on the world stage. One snatched a podium to silence criticism from an F1 champion. The other has taken a handful of points in a backmarker team after a serious back injury before the start of the season.

We look back at the biggest moments of the season so far, including tyre blow outs, road rage, and one off appearances.
