Sauber Formula 1 driver Pascal Wehrlein has insisted he ‘can’t even imagine’ racing in Formula E in the future, amid rumours surrounding his future.
With Sauber signing a new deal with Ferrari and its possible intentions of becoming their junior team, it’s possible that Mercedes protegee Wehrlein could be left without a seat.
Mercedes recently announced their exit from DTM, which Wehrlein won in 2014. He had been linked with a return to the series but with Mercedes’ exit, it now seems unlikely.
The German manufacturer will enter Formula E in 2019, and many including ReadMotorsport has tipped Wehrlein to be a part of their plans.
However Wehrlein poured cold water on these rumours when speaking to Bild newspaper; “I like noise, performance and fuel. I can’t even imagine racing in Formula E.”
The 22-year-old also insists he’s done everything he can to secure his future in F1.
“I have scored all five points and in qualifying, it is eight; two for me against [Marcus] Ericsson. What more can I do?”
Wehrlein sits 16th in the drivers’ championship, with the 2017 season set to resume in Belgium on August 27.
