# Zarco aiming for Brno podium after difficult German GP

Tech3 Yamaha’s Johann Zarco has set his sights on reaching the podium in the Czech Grand Prix at Brno following a difficult race at the Sachsenring before the summer break.

Double Moto2 world champion Zarco has rarely put a foot wrong in his debut season, scoring a maiden podium at home at Le Mans and a first pole position at the Dutch TT.

However, the changeable conditions experienced on Saturday at the Sachsenring derailed Zarco’s purple patch. The Tech3 rider was 19th in qualifying, and the time spent battling through the pack in the race meant he could only manage ninth.

Team-mate Jonas Folger challenged Honda’s Marc Marquez for the victory for much of the 30-lap contest, and it is the German’s podium charge which has Zarco confident of a return to form at Brno.

“The Czech GP is coming and after the summer break, my energy is good,” said the Frenchman.

“I have a lot of confidence for this track, and since the start of my racing career I’ve been quite fast there.

“It was a tricky weekend at the Sachsenring, but I learnt a lot and Jonas’ podium podium performance has given me a high level of motivation for the next rounds.

“When I struggled in Germany, he did such a solid job, which means we have the right bike and team.”

Brno has typically been a strong track for the YZR-M1. Factory rider Valentino Rossi made it to the podium in last year’s rain-hit race, while Jorge Lorenzo cruised to victory a year prior.

The 3.357-mile Czech circuit has also proved prosperous for Tech3, with former rider Cal Crutchlow securing pole in 2013, as well as third-place finishes that same year and in 2012.

With this in mind, Zarco comes into the 10th round of the 2017 season confident of being able to fight for the rostrum come Sunday.

“Overall, the layout of the Brno track is very good for the Yamaha, so I will be focused and I hope to achieve strong results on all three days,” the 2015 Moto2 Brno race winner added.

“I will push every time and work for the race where maybe I can get a podium.”
