Campos Racing’s Marcos Siebert topped a highly competitive GP3 practice session at the Red Bull Ring.
The Argentinian driver set a lap time of 1m19.703s, 0.327s faster than Charles Leclerc’s record lap from the same part of the weekend in 2016.
It is the first session that Siebert has led in the series after racing in one round and taking part in eight test days.
Haas protege Santino Ferrucci finished just 0.036s adrift in second ahead of Honda junior and championship leader Nirei Fukuzumi.
Fukuzumi and fourth-placed Giuliano Alesi were two drivers who led the timesheets multiple times throughout the session.
The Frenchman is preparing to race at the circuit for the first time after withdrawing from last year’s event through medical issues.
Arden’s Leonardo Pulcini was the final driver to reach under the 1m19s mark.
Renault academy racer Jack Aitken led team-mate and Mercedes-backed George Russell by just 0.002s, while Raoul Hyman was just 0.001s further behind.
Jenzer’s Alessio Lorandi and Haas development driver team-mate Arjun Maini completed the top-10.
Red Bull junior Niko Kari was 12th quickest at the team’s home track, while Sauber’s Tatiana Calderon was 18th.
