# Rossi ‘slow in all conditions’ at Sachsenring

Valentino Rossi endured a difficult Friday ahead of the German Grand Prix, the Dutch TT winner admitting he was ‘slow in all conditions’ experienced at the Sachsenring in practice.

The day started off dry at the newly-resurfaced 2.28-mile German venue, though Rossi was robbed of track time on his preferred chassis after an electrical issue 20 minutes in forced him to park up at Turn 7.

The Italian made it back to his garage for his second bike, but was unable to gain any feeling from the front tyre and could only manage a 1m22.535s to go 16th.

“It was a difficult day, because I was slow in all the conditions,” he said.

“In the dry I think our pace is a bit better, but anyway nothing fantastic.

“Unfortunately, on the last run in FP1 I didn’t have any feeling with the front tyre and I wasn’t able to make a good lap time to enter the top 10.”

The afternoon session saw conditions take a turn for the worse, a heavy downpour just before and one during making life difficult for all of the riders.

Rossi, acknowledging he is usually strong in the wet, struggled just as much as he had done in the first session, the Italian almost 1.5 seconds off the pace in 15th on a 1m29.549s.

The Yamaha rider put his woes in the wet down to a poor balance on his YZR-M1 as a result of the new tarmac.

With rain forecast for Saturday, Rossi’s 16th on the combined times could see him facing the first part of qualifying for the third time this season, something he admits would be a ‘nightmare.’

“I think that especially in the wet we suffer very much. I think we’re not good with the balance of the bike.

“As I’m not in the top 10, we hope that tomorrow we can have a dry session in FP3.

“If not, it will be very difficult because starting from behind is a nightmare for everybody.

“We have to try to improve the bike’s balance in the wet, because with the new asphalt the bike is very difficult to ride and usually in the wet we are stronger, but today we are quite far from the top, so we have to try to modify something.”
