Haas’ Romain Grosjean has highlighted how proud he is of the team’s development since entering the sport, describing the process as a ‘special experience.’
The Frenchman, who has been at Haas since their debut campaign in 2016, noted how the team are able to maximise their results on a Sunday, even when outright car performance provides challenges.
Speaking in the drivers’ press conference ahead of the Azerbaijan Grand Prix, Grosjean said; “I think from the first year, we’ve shown that we’ve gained consistency and that the team is growing up and capitalising on good calls and good strategy and getting the best out of a situation.
“Even though performance in Canada, for example, was not really good, in the race with a very aggressive strategy and a little bit of luck at the end, we managed to score points.”
Grosjean’s tenth place finish in Canada was his third consecutive top ten result. He currently lies 12th in the drivers’ standings.
Last season, the Frenchman ended the year 13th, but with his points total of 29 skewed by an opening two rounds where he finished sixth and fifth. Despite their performance tailing off in the latter stages of 2016, Haas has responded strongly.
“In Monaco we were pretty fast where we struggled last year, so I think we’ve moved a long way and when I look back and see what we are doing, I’m very proud of the team and myself because I’ve been in there since day one.
“What we are achieving today is work that we have all done together. It’s a very special experience to build a team around you.”
Despite his, at times, aggravated tone on the team radio, Grosjean appears to still be enjoying the Haas project. The team has not yet encountered the ‘second-season syndrome’ that many had anticipated.
