# Crutchlow tests Honda aero fairing at Assen

LCR Honda’s Cal Crutchlow spent some of Friday’s practice running HRC’s aerodynamic fairing, but is unsure whether he will continue using it for the remainder of the Dutch TT weekend.

Crutchlow, who penned a two-year deal with HRC to remain with LCR earlier this week, has regularly tested new parts from Honda this season and put some miles on the new fairing at the post-Catalunya Grand Prix test.

Finding some positives with it at the test, Crutchlow sought further gains on Friday at Assen, but remains tight-lipped on just how effective it was and feels much more set-up needs to be done to the bike to extract the maximum from the fairing.

“We’re just re-evaluating what I’ve already tested at a different circuit,”[Crutchlow told bikesportnews.com.](https://www.bikesportnews.com/news/news-detail/motogp-assen-crutchlow-runs-hrc-aero-package)

“In the Barcelona test I found some positives to it. But there are positives and negatives, and we’re trying to get the positives out it and rid of the negatives.

“At the moment it seems a little difficult to understand. We need to maybe adjust the settings of the bike.

“I know it’s only a fairing, but last year with the wings we adjusted the bike quite a lot setting-wise and suspension-wise.

“And now we maybe have to do that again, if we want to continue with it. I don’t now whether we will continue with it over the weekend or nor. We’ll see tomorrow.”

Honda, along with several other manufacturers, homologated its aero fairing design at the season-opening Qatar Grand Prix but have yet to race it, with only Aprilia, Yamaha, KTM and Suzuki giving theirs any serious track time so far this year.

Crutchlow enjoyed a strong opening day at Assen, the Briton completing the top three in first practice and ending the day fifth overall with a 1m33.828s in the afternoon session, putting him just 0.698 seconds off the pace.

The LCR rider’s fairing testing, as well as a few spits of rain 15 minutes into the second session, stopped him from evaluating the medium and harder rear tyres more in-depth, something he likely won’t be able to do on Saturday with wet weather predicted.

“Obviously, the second session was a bit strange because it rained halfway through – we could have with a few more laps testing the medium rear tyre.

“I also wanted to try the hard rear tyre, but we didn’t get that opportunity. Tomorrow is going to be a bit of a dodgy day I think, but we’ll see what we can do on Sunday.”
