Miller happy to return to scene of memorable debut win

Marc VDS rider Jack Miller is looking forward to returning to the TT Circuit Assen this weekend, the scene of his memorable debut MotoGP victory 12 months ago.

The Australian mastered the tricky conditions of the fragmented 2016 Dutch TT to score his first MotoGP win and the first for a satellite rider since 2006, and was the third rider in a record-breaking series of seven successive different race winners.

Miller has enjoyed a strong start to his third MotoGP campaign, scoring points on all but two occasions so far this season, and comes into the eighth round of the season feeling confident after a positive Barcelona race, even if he did crash out.

“Obviously I’ve got some decent memories of Assen, after standing on the top step of a MotoGP for the first time last year, and I’m looking forward to this year’s race.

“We go to the Netherlands after a solid weekend in Barcelona that was spoilt only by the crash in the race. I like the Assen track and I think we can do a good job there, we just need to keep working in the same way we’ve done since the start of the season.

“Conditions will be cooler than the last two races, but I don’t think that will make a big difference, but rain could shake things up a bit.

“It might be summer, but this is Assen we’re talking about, so the weather can change in an instant. We’re ready whatever it throws at us.”

Despite showing decent form on his Marc VDS Honda this year, Miller has expressed his anger at a lack of support from HRC as he continues to battle the acceleration issues that have plagued him since pre-season.

While the factory riders and LCR’s Cal Crutchlow have received upgrades to cure this issue, Miller admitted after the Barcelona race that he is more or less riding the same bike Honda gave him in February.

“We’ve just got to find some fucking acceleration, that’d be nice,” an angry Miller told Autosport.com following the Catalunya Grand Prix.

“It sucks. I feel like not only a second rider but a third rider. I’m here, putting in the work and, it sucks to say but I had a shit bike in the first year, last year wasn’t much fucking better and this year it seems I’m on the bike I got given at the Phillip Island test.

“Nothing has been updated; the same problem I’ve been complaining about since Qatar is still happening now. I’m still getting dicked on the acceleration. It sucks.”
