Monisha Kaltenborn will leave her role as team principal and executive officer of Sauber Formula 1 team according to multiple reports.
Kaltenborn joined the Swiss team in 2000 as head of its legal team, quickly rising to become CEO in 2010 and then the first ever female team principal in the sport in 2012.
Founder Peter Sauber, who appointed her as his successor in 2013, retired when Longbow Finance bought his and Kaltenborn’s shares last season.
However Kaltenborn remained in her position and was believed to be instrumental in acquiring Mercedes junior Pascal Wehrlein to partner Marcus Ericsson for the 2017 season.
It was the treatment of these two drivers which caused major friction between the owners and Kaltenborn, according to Autosport.

Longbow Finance wanted to give preferential treatment to Ericsson while Kaltenborn believed in giving both Sauber’s drivers the same attention and opportunities.
This was reportedly one of many differences between her and the owner prompting her exit which is still to be officially confirmed.
Ex-Force India and HRT boss Colin Kolles is among the favourites to replace Kaltenborn according to Autosport.
