# Positive Barcelona test has Lorenzo feeling confident ahead of Ducati’s home race

Jorge Lorenzo comes into his first Italian Grand Prix as a Ducati rider confident of returning to the form he showed at Jerez last month, a positive two days of testing in Barcelona filling the Spaniard with optimism.

Lorenzo completed 150 laps across the two days of running at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya, ending the test as top Ducati runner on his GP17 and pleased with the progress the team made in curing the graining issues he had been suffering with the front tyre.

“After the sixth place at Le Mans and, above all, the positive test we had last week at Montmelo, I come to Mugello feeling optimistic and with a great desire to race,” said the Ducati rider.

“We found some good solutions with the front tyre and the aim is to be as competitive as we were at Jerez.”

The Spaniard is a six-time race winner at Mugello, five of those coming in the MotoGP class, with the other in his first title-winning year in the 250cc class in 2006. He has also failed to finish outside of the top two at the Italian Grand Prix for the past eight years.

One of the reasons Lorenzo found success at Jerez was down to the increased mileage on the bike he had tallied up to that point, which meant he was able to set the bike up more to his liking and ride more comfortably at a circuit he enjoys.

Having done another race since then as well as a test, on top of the fact that Mugello is another of his favourite circuits and it is Ducati’s home event, Lorenzo says he is ‘even more motivated’ to put on a strong showing.

“Now I’ve accumulated more mileage, and as a result more experience on the bike, I feel ready for the Italian GP,” he explained.

“Mugello is one of my favourite circuits and it’s also one of the tracks where I have won the most in the past.

“This year we also have the fact that it’s Ducati’s home track, and this makes me even more motivated. I can’t wait to see all the fans in the Ducati grandstand.”
