# Jacobsen edges Sofuoglu to end Friday fastest

MV Agusta’s PJ Jacobsen snatched top spot away from Kenan Sofuoglu in FP2 to head the combined times on Friday at Donington Park.

Improvements were few and far between in the opening half of the session, with a red flag 25 minutes in halting proceedings while debris from Zulfhami Khairuddin’s spill at the Turn 9 and 10 chicane was cleared up.

When action resumed, the timing screens began to light up with personal and session best sector times. Ending the morning second quickest, Jacobsen was able to knock almost half a second off his FP1 time to go top with a 1m30.968s.

Sofuoglu managed to go quicker than he did this morning, but missed out on Jacobsen’s best effort by 0.114 seconds, with Britain’s Gino Rea benefiting from a tow in the closing stages to jump up to third.

Championship leader Lucas Mahias didn’t improve on his FP1 best, but his 1m31.451s kept him fourth on the combined times ahead of compatriot Jules Cluzel and his CIA Landlords Insurance Honda team-mate Hikari Okubo.

Kyle Smith slipped from fourth on the combined times this morning to seventh in FP2, while Christian Gamarino was able to sneak into the top 10 in the closing stages having languished outside of it for most of the day.

Kallio Racing’s Sheridan Morais crashed at the final corner with 24 minutes to go, but was unscathed in the fall and managed to guide his Yamaha R6 to ninth on the timesheets. Profile Racing’s Jack Kennedy was the last rider to gain direct passage to the second part of Superpole, his team-mate Luke Stapleford just missing out in 11th.

Federico Caricasulo will be disappointed with 12th on the second factory GRT Yamaha, as will British wildcard Joe Francis, who was shuffled out of the top 10 to 13th by a heavy fall in the opening stages of FP2.
