De Vries hit with second grid penalty, Leclerc escapes punishment

McLaren junior Nyck de Vries has been handed a three-place grid penalty after impeding Ferrari junior Antonio Fuoco in qualifying for Formula 2’s feature race in Monaco.

The Dutchman qualified in eighth place but was already scheduled to drop three places after he received a penalty for causing a collision in the sprint race in Spain, once again with Prema Racing’s Fuoco.

In Monaco, de Vries blocked the Italian at the penultimate corner in qualifying and will now start down in 14th place.

Fuoco will line-up in 13th position and will be hoping to add to his 2017 points tally, which at present stands at just two points, compared to his team-mate Charles Leclerc who leads the championship with 73 points.

Polesitter Leclerc was under investigation after he allegedly stalled in the pitlane and failed to wait for a minute before getting going again, breaking the rules.

However, the Monegasque driver has escaped punishment and will start his home race from pole position ahead of fellow rookie Alexander Albon.
