Maini becomes Haas development driver

Jenzer’s Arjun Maini has become Haas’ latest development driver, joining fellow GP3 racer Santino Ferrucci in the role.

The Indian will be included in the team’s programme, working with them at races and tests alongside simulator work.

This is the latest development in Maini’s career after making his GP3 debut last July, claiming a second-placed finish in the Hungarian sprint race in just his fourth start.

He also started on pole in two sprint races after claiming eighth-placed results in features, finishing the year in 10th in the Drivers’ Championship with 50 points.

The 19-year-old believes that the role is important to future prospects in both GP3 and potentially Formula 1.

“It’s an honour to be a part of Haas’ driver development programme,” Maini said.

“All of my racing to date has been with the focus of becoming an F1 driver, and this opportunity puts me one step closer to my goal.

“I am eager to learn, understand and experience how an F1 team operates. Everything I learn can be used immediately in GP3 while preparing for my ultimate goal.”

Maini begins an expected first full year in the series in the opening round at Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya this weekend alongside team-mate Alessio Lorandi.
