Kevin Magnussen will receive Haas’ new upgrades a day before his team-mate Romain Grosjean, after winning a coin toss.
Barcelona will see a multitude of updates up and down the grid, with Haas bringing a new floor to the fifth round of the 2017 season.
Magnussen and Grosjean are tied on four points each in the drivers’ championship, so when there was a “production delay” at Dallara (Haas’ chassis provider) the team were forced to toss a coin to decide which driver would receive the one available new floor.
Grosjean lost the toss, meaning he will have to wait until final practice on Saturday morning to sit in the fully upgraded Haas.
“Unfortunately I won’t have it until Saturday and that’s not ideal,” Grosjean said.
“There’s only one available right now and I didn’t get it. It was a coin toss – I’ve never been lucky with that.
“It’s not ideal because it’s a big change of a lot of things on the car and I don’t know what it’s going to be like tomorrow for us.
“The problem is you need to set up the car around the new package.”

Grosjean also reflected on a difficult Russian Grand Prix, which saw him eliminated in a first corner collision with Renault’s Jolyon Palmer.
“I didn’t drive well, so I take the blame for the weekend,” he said.
“A few things [went wrong]. We didn’t react well from FP1 – we did the wrong set-up changes.
“We didn’t focus enough where we should have, and things got out of the way. It was low grip – I struggle as well with that.
“The car never really suited me. We took as well the wrong decision in the background.
“We need to focus more on getting things correct from the beginning.”
