# Dani Pedrosa continues dominance by taking Jerez pole

Dani Pedrosa’s excellent weekend at Jerez has continued with the Spaniard taking pole for tomorrow’s Spanish Grand Prix.

Pedrosa has had excellent pace throughout the weekend and has led all but one free practice session. This then continued into qualifying, where even a late Marc Marquez charge couldn’t stop Pedrosa taking his first pole since Malaysia 2015.

Q1 saw Andrea Iannone and Aleix Espargaro make it through into the second session. Andrea Dovizioso yet again missed out on Q2, with Danilo Petrucci and Alvaro Bautista being the other heavyweights being knocked out.

However, KTM saw massive improvements during Q1, with both Bradley Smith and Pol Espargaro managing to fight the others for a spot in Q2. It shouldn’t be long before one of the pair makes it through this season.

Moving into Q2, it continued to be the Pedrosa show. Marc Marquez and Cal Crutchlow both attempted to dethrone the Spaniard from the top spot but were unable to challenge. The pair will have to settle for second and third place on the grid respectively.

Maverick Vinales was the best of the rest in fourth but will be looking for more in tomorrow’s race. His teammate Valentino Rossi was all the way down in seventh, but as always, the Italian normally makes up for a poor qualifying in the race.

Andrea Iannone was fifth, with Johann Zarco again impressing in sixth. Jorge Lorenzo’s improving weekend continued, with the Spaniard starting tomorrow’s race from eighth place on the grid. He will be followed by Jonas Folger and Jack Miller in ninth and tenth. Miller crashed out during the session, along with Aleix Espargaro, who ended up twelfth. Scott Redding will start from eleventh tomorrow.

It’s all set for an intriguing and exciting Spanish GP tomorrow. Lights will go out at 13:00 BST at the Jerez Circuit in Andalusia.
