Rins to miss several races after breaking his wrist in Texas

Team Suzuki Ecstar rider Alex Rins will miss the rest of the Grand Prix of the Americas and the Spanish Grand Prix at minimum, after the Spaniard suffered a fractured right left wrist in a crash during FP3.

Rins had been enduring a tough weekend already, an engine blow-up at the start of second practice on Friday putting him on the back foot heading into today’s running.

His fortunes failed to improve in FP3 when he highsided exiting Turn 19 at the start of the 45-minute session, Rins one of seven crashers this morning.

He was taken to the circuit’s medical centre where scans revealed he had ‘a radius and ulnar dislocated fracture of his left wrist’. Rins will now have the injury stabilised at hospital in Austin before flying back to Spain for surgery.

Dr Xavier Mir, MotoGP’s renowned surgeon, confirmed Rins’ recovery time from his operation will be at least six weeks, which should see him miss the French Grand Prix in mid-May as well his home race at Jerez at the start of the month.

Rins has spent the entirety of his MotoGP career so far battling injury. The Spaniard suffered fractures to his back in a crash on the second day of the Valencia test, which severely curtailed his pre-season preparation.

He also sustained a fracture to his ankle in a training accident following his premier class debut in Qatar, where he finished as top rookie in ninth.
