# New seating position giving Lorenzo ‘a lot more confidence’

Jorge Lorenzo says a new seating position, trialled in Argentina two weeks ago, is allowing him to ride his Desmosedici with much more confidence and his happy with performance despite finishing the day outside of the top 10.

The Spaniard made a revelation during practice in Argentina when he opted to run a higher seating position, like he had done in last November’s Valencia test.

Not used to sitting as high on a bike, Lorenzo had it lowered for the remaining tests, and admitted this mistake basically rendered his pre-season null.

Unable to see if the new position, along with several set-up changes, would yield the desired results in the Argentine Grand Prix due to an opening lap crash, Lorenzo tried it on Friday in Texas and is feeling positive heading forward.

“Even though my position is not very good, and for the moment I am outside the top 10, I am quite happy,” the Spaniard said after second practice.

“We still have tomorrow morning’s FP3 session to play with, but the most important thing is that my feeling with the Desmosedici has improved a lit from Argentina.”

Lorenzo ended the day down in 11th on a 2m05.282s, some 1.2s off the pace set by Honda’s Marc Marquez, but crucially only a few tenths outside of the top five.

With the GP17 giving him more confidence on corner entry, he is optimistic of being able to make further improvements ahead of qualifying on Saturday.

“The new riding position gives me a lot more confidence and feels safer in corner entry, and in general I feel better on the bike. In the end we are not far off fourth or fifth, and I hope to make another step forward.”
