Marquez takes Argentina pole in testing conditions

Honda’s Marc Marquez has taken pole in Argentina for the fourth consecutive year at the Termas de Rio Hondo circuit after a chaotic qualifying session.

However, the star of the show was Aspar Ducati’s Karel Abraham. The Czech will start from the front row for the first time in his MotoGP career tomorrow, after cementing second place as proceedings came to a close in Argentina on his two-year-old GP15.

In Q1, it would be Dani Pedrosa and Valentino Rossi who would move up into Q2. This lead to many high profile riders being stuck well down the order such as Jorge Lorenzo and Andrea Dovizioso. The Ducati pairing will be forced to start from 16th and 13th place respectively.

It was then onto Q2, where Marquez dominated from start to finish. With rain still spitting onto the circuit and with various wet patches, the Repsol Honda rider seemed unfazed and put in a stellar lap time.

Abraham impressed on the Aspar Ducati and was able to wrap up a stellar weekend so far with a second place start for the race. Third was Cal Crutchlow, who in typical fashion managed to get in a solid lap time, putting him third.

Danilo Petrucci will start from fourth, with Dani Pedrosa and Maverick Vinales joining him on the second row.

Valentino Rossi’s struggles continued, with the Italian starting from seventh tomorrow. He’ll be followed by Aleix Espagaro and Loris Baz. Alvaro Bautista, Jonas Folger and Andrea Iannone will start from 10th, 11th and 12th respectively.

It will certainly be an interesting race tomorrow, and it all gets underway at 20:00 BST.
