# Rinaldi cruises to Aragon STK1000 victory

Aruba.it Ducati rider Michael Ruben Rinaldi cruised to victory in the opening round of the 2017 European Superstock 1000 Championship.

The Italian snatched pole position away from Nuova M2 Aprilia rider Max Scheib right at the death of qualifying yesterday, and this strongly hinted towards a good scrap between the pair in Sunday’s 13-lap race.

In the opening laps Rinaldi led Scheib, the pair easily breaking away from both Pata Yamahas, Mike Jones and the Puccetti Kawasaki of Toprak Razgatlioglu.

By the fourth lap, Scheib was right with the Italian and went for a pass on the inside of Turn 7. However, the Nuova rider ran into the corner too hot on the brakes and almost lost the front, forcing him to run off track.

This allowed Rinaldi to open up a near two-second gap. Scheib crashed out at Turn 4 trying to hunt down the Ducati rider, and Rinaldi was left to cruise to the line with a comfortable margin of 3.5s.

Behind, Florian Marino had caught and passed Razgatlioglu for second, and the Turkish rider soon had to fend off the resurgent Jones. The pair swapped position several times, which allowed the sister Yamaha of Roberto Tambruini to close in.

Jones’ challenge faded when he ran off at the penultimate corner with three laps to go. The Australian was able to rejoin and salvaged ninth.

Marino and Razgatlioglu rubbed bodywork all through the first sector on the final lap, but the Turkish rider held sway. Marino went for one final attempt into the final corner and made it stick, whilst Razgatlioglu was lucky to get away with a near high-side to keep fourth.

Marco Faccani guided his Althea BMW to fifth, with Jeremy Guarnoni a second adrift. Luca Vitali, Illia Mykhalchyk, Jones and Marvin Fritz completing the top 10.

The final points paying positions went to Wayne Tessels, Luca Marconi, Sebastien Suchet, Julian Puffe and Andrea Tucci.
